Organic Farming and No GMO's

Conventional farming methods have destroyed our topsoil and ability to grow food. We need to practice organic methods which enrich the soil with each crop. We also need to ban GMO's as they really can't be proven safe, and there is already evidence they have caused harm to our health.

I support doing this by switching subsidies to organic farmers, making it less burdensome to be certified organic, and by supporting food sharing and gardening on public property.

The jury is still out on the DIRECT impacts of GMOs on Human Health. However the Jury is back on the idea that it doesn’t increase yield and increases pesticide use and helps pests adapt to pesticides and the genes in the plants meant to stop them. This pesticide use is proven to be harmful so we need to highlight the INDIRECT relationship between GMOs and health.
However we need to highlight new regulations on them, including price controls, contract restrictions, bans on patenting of living things, environmental regulations, strict independent testing and requiring the words “may include Genetically Modified Ingredients” on the nutrition information.
This is also an issue that should not be placed at the forefront as many think this is just conspiracy nonsense and it can turn people off.

I agree that something must be done about the way food is produced; however, stopping GMOs is not a reasonable solution. Humans have been intentionally altering organisms’ DNA for centuries. What needs to be done is ensuring that these plants and animals are safe to consume.

We also need to move towards a vegan world where animals are not used or abused for human convenience or pleasure (this includes for food or clothing).
