Organizing Checklist for New Chapters
[Home]
Thank you for
taking the first steps to starting a new College Greens chapter.
Here is a checklist to help you get started. If you have any
problems along the way or think of something we should share with other
organizers, please e-mail college@gp.org.
□
Contact College Greens and your state and local Green Party. Let
us know you are starting a chapter. Remember, even if no one shows
up to your first meeting you are not alone. Many talented people are
working across the country if you need help.
□ Call your school's student affairs
office and find out the requirements for starting a registered student
organization (RSO). You may have to collect signatures on a petition
and submit a constitution. Your school should be able to provide you
with the materials you need.
□ Find a faculty advisor. Your
local party may know party members who
can advise your group. Ask professors from your classes if they
would be willing to help. You can always ask a department chair if
they know of a staff member who can advise the group.
□ Find members! Personal
contacts are always best. Many members of environmental, social
justice, LGBT, and philosophy groups will be interested in joining a
campus College Greens chapter. Ask these groups if you can speak for
a minute during their minute to introduce the College Greens. Some
College Democrats or Republicans may be interested as well. Don't
forget to advertise on-line and in your college newspaper.
