Organizing Checklist for New Chapters [Home]

Thank you for taking the first steps to starting a new College Greens chapter.  Here is a checklist to help you get started.  If you have any problems along the way or think of something we should share with other organizers, please e-mail college@gp.org.

Contact College Greens and your state and local Green Party.  Let us know you are starting a chapter.  Remember, even if no one shows up to your first meeting you are not alone.  Many talented people are working across the country if you need help.

Call your school's student affairs office and find out the requirements for starting a registered student organization (RSO).  You may have to collect signatures on a petition and submit a constitution.  Your school should be able to provide you with the materials you need.

Find a faculty advisor.  Your local party may know party members who
can advise your group.  Ask professors from your classes if they would be willing to help.  You can always ask a department chair if they know of a staff member who can advise the group.

Find members!  Personal contacts are always best.  Many members of environmental, social justice, LGBT, and philosophy groups will be interested in joining a campus College Greens chapter.  Ask these groups if you can speak for a minute during their minute to introduce the College Greens.  Some College Democrats or Republicans may be interested as well.  Don't forget to advertise on-line and in your college newspaper.
