Enact Proportional Representation and Ranked Choice Voting

Compared to many other countries around the world, our election system here in the United States is flawed and undemocratic. The first-past-the-post system combined with egregiously high ballot access requirements in some states has resulted in the stifling of the alternative parties and candidates that polls have shown around half of voters want. A series of reforms is needed to ensure our elections are fair and democratic, including enacting proportional representation for the House of Representatives, with a threshold for governmental inclusion comparable to other nations which use proportional representation, and ranked-choice voting for the Senate and Presidency.

FairVote (http://www.fairvote.org) would be a very helpful partner to work with on this issue.

This infrastructure reform is really significant, because it would strengthen the CONCEPT and the PRACTICE of democracy. It would make voting more meaningful and elected officials more real and more accountable.
