  • Democracy

The power of civic action is an antidote to the corporate control of so much of our lawmaking and regulating. The pervasive abuse imposed by corporate power increasingly undermines our democracy, but the Green Party seeks to rekindle the democratic flame. As voting citizens, taxpayers, workers, consumers, and stakeholders, we unite to exercise our rights and, as Thomas Jefferson urged, to counteract the "excesses of the moneyed interests." Toward this end, we consider serious reform of campaign funding to be essential, as well as curbs on the influence of corporations on lawmakers and regulatory agencies.

Green Party Gains Party Status in MA, NY, OH, and WI

As returns are being counted, it has become clear that the Green Party of the United States as gained or retained qualified ballot status in at least 4 states. This report was compiled based on Richard Winger’s reporting at Ballot Access News:

In Massachusetts, parties gain ballot access if a statewide nominee polls at least 3% of the vote. Several Green-Rainbow Party nominees have polled in excess of 4%. The Green-Rainbow Party is the Massachusetts state affiliate of the national Green Party.

In New York, Green Party candidate for governor Howie Hawkins polled 165,000 votes, more than triple the 50,000 necessary for party status. The party moves from line “F” to line “D”.

In Ohio, Green Party gubernatorial candidate Anita Rios polled over 3% in her race. This is in excess of the 2% needed to retain ballot access, and keeps the party on the ballot through 2018.

In Wisconsin, Greens have regained ballot status after losing it in 2010.
