Green Party Card raises $11K
Card program helping Greens get organized
By Emily Citowski
GP-US Operations Manager

Greens all over the country can now show their "Green Pride" by becoming card-carrying Greens. Introduced in early March, the Green Party Card program has already raised close to $11,000. Half of this money has been contributed back to the state parties.

Not only has the program been successful for raising money on the national and local levels, but it has brought many new people into the Green Party and put them in touch with their state parties so they can become active and involved as Greens.

For $36 a year members of the program receive a personalized card, a subscription to Green Pages, a button, a bumper sticker, and contact information for state parties and committees. The national office sends the contact information for new Green Party cardholders to the Green Party Card Coordinator in each state. Card coordinators are encouraged to put the new cardholders in touch with their local Green party so that they can get involved in the activity of their local party. Half of each $36 contributed to the program goes to the state Green party of the cardholder.

The Green Party national office has printed snazzy new Green Party Card applications to help build the program. State or local parties can request bundles of 100 or more application cards to distribute at meetings, for tabling events; and when talking to friends and family members.

$36 is roughly equivalent to the $1 paid to join the Populist Party in the 1890s. The Populist Party was a multiracial, progressive, grassroots third party of working people which successfully agitated for many popular progressive reforms. The Green Party of the 21st century is building on populist tradition to build a modern-day, powerful and progressive political party.

Please help get the word out, and sign up for a card today! You can sign up for your card on line at www.gp.org/greenpartycard.html. Or, look for the ad in the latest issue of Green Pages. If you have any questions, feel free to call the Green Party national office at 1-866-41-GREEN.
