Beware of feuds

with anyone at all times

unless you intend



& potentially are willing to

face an enemy for life.

That's politics.



Indulge your natural bent

towards gregariousness & be

there everywhere as



is possible without ruining your

family & driving yourself nuts.

That's politics.



Delight your friends

with outrageous statements

in support



& surprise your colleagues

with tempered arguments

in opposition.



Your supporters need to see

some elbow grease for all their

friendly palms. Likewise



using language not as deep truth

but as a tool for hostile infiltration

works when the issue's not a decision



you are in a position to make

anyway & your immediate

goal is getting to know



& knowing just what rook

to sacrifice to their queen.

That's politics.



Regardless of the cost, never

deceive yourself when it comes

to the final yah or nay.



And always be able to explain yourself

& if for some reason you can't

do that convincingly



whether in a public meeting or

private chat, reconsider all reasons

& rationales & if you have to,



stand up, reverse yourself

& admit you were wrong.

That's politics.



Carry water for the weak

& campaign for what your

poorest constituency seeks.



Speak up for the fauna & flora.

Listen to wind as well as words.

Know the mushrooms.



Remember you don't rule

but the people through you.

That's politics.
