Paul Aranas, PGP candidate for Congress, District 5, 503-873-0990
Paul Aranas, Pacific Green Party challenger for Congresswoman Darlene Hooley’s seat in U.S. House District 5, will be
visiting Lincoln County on Sept. 21 and 22 to promote his progressive vision for domestic and foreign policy.
Aranas, unsuccessful in his bid to debate the congresswoman on issues of war, peace, and poverty, is bringing his messagedirectly to the people.
A lecturer and doctoral candidate in International Affairs and Diplomacy, Aranas advocates for the victims of oppression
due to unjustified war, illegal foreign occupation and the neo-liberal globalization that is devastating the poor people of
developing nations. “Instead of engaging in war and demonizing our adversaries,” Aranas says, “we should find ways to
make peace through cooperation and diplomacy. We must promote peace through dialogue, financial assistance and
cooperation with the United Nations.”
Aranas will be touring the Lincoln City area on Thursday Sept. 21, International Peace Day. His supporters are planning a
reception for him between 6 and 8 p.m. that evening at Kairos House, 4439 SW HWY 101, which is just north of Taft on the
west side of the highway, next to the Anchor Motel. The reception will be followed by a candlelight peace vigil, part of a
national week of prayer and demonstrations against the militarism that has overtaken our foreign policy.
On Friday morning, Sept. 22, a coffee for Aranas at 9 a.m. in the Green Salmon restaurant and bakery, 20 HWY 101 N. in Yachats, will begin a day of touring the south and central parts of the county. That evening, all Lincoln County residents are invited to meet and talk with Aranas at the second floor meeting room of the Visual Arts Center, 777 NW Beach Dr., in Newport’s Nye Beach area. Coffee and refreshments from Panini’s will be served from 5-7 p.m.
