Latinx Caucus of the Green Party Statement on Immigrant Rights and Family Separations

The Latinx Caucus of the Green Party joins the chorus of condemnations of the egregious human rights violations that continue to be perpetrated at the US Mexico border and which have spread throughout America. Through his administration’s hateful policies towards people of color President Donald Trump has shown himself unfit to govern. In removing kids from their mothers and fathers to incarcerate them in “tender age” shelters as a “deterrent” to immigration the Trump administration ignores basic principles of human rights. The very notion that the government of the United States of America would create an infrastructure for the mass removal of children from their parents is a profound human rights violation and a reprehensible affront to the dignity and morality of all Americans. In his decision, Judge Reynolds sided with the Montana Democratic Party which had filed an emergency injunction in April, challenging some of the petition signatures. The Separation of Children and Families, and Human Rights at the U.S. Border

The Green Party of Connecticut affirms that migration and asylum are human rights. The current situation at the United States border is a sad example of the inhumane treatment of children and families seeking refuge and is in violation of United Nations mandates and international law. The U.S.'s past bipartisan support for military interventions and recent U.S. policies in Central America have contributed to, and in many cases are causing, the influx of refugees crossing the border from nations like Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. Over the last 100 years, a brutal U.S. foreign policy and U.S. support for murderous regimes, such as then Sec. of State Hillary Clinton's support for the 2009 coup in Honduras, has created a disastrous situation for much of the Americas and for people seeking asylum and seeking migration from brutal and murderous conditions. PA Greens support Ranked Choice Voting

The Green Party of Pennsylvania is celebrating Maine's landmark win for representative democracy on June 12th when the citizens approved a measure that adopts ranked choice voting for all state elections. Ranked choice voting, also known as instant runoff voting, allows voters to rank their candidates in order of preference. If no candidate gets at least 50% of the vote, then there is no majority winner. The candidates with very few votes are dropped out and the top candidates continue in an instant runoff process: If a voter's first choice is dropped out, then their second choice receives their vote.  Continue reading

Green Party Statement on Child Separations in Immigration Cases

The Green Party of the United States affirms that migration is a human right, and we are outraged by the current situation at the U.S. border regarding the inhumane treatment of children and families seeking refuge from the United States’ imperialist policies visited upon Latin American nations. Greens are not fooled by the games that the Trump administration now seems to be playing with human lives. His executive order today, while a victory for public activism and direct action in general, seems more an attempt to mollify the public and create a legal situation in which current law regarding the maximum time limit for detention could be challenged. Portland Greens Condemn ICE

Portland, OR – The Green Party of Portland condemns the actions of the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for separating families in the name of making our country "great." The removal of children from their parents is traumatic, heartless, and immoral. Despite President Trump's assertions, this is not the way. Despite the assertions of Democrats, they too have a shameful history of supporting deportations. We support the #OccupyICE action and any nonviolent means of resistance against ICE facilities in our community and across the United States. Continue reading
