Green Party: UN Ambassador Nikki Haley rescind veto of Security Council draft statement on shootings of Palestinians
The Green Party of the United States called on US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, to rescind the US veto of the UN Security Council draft statement calling for an independent investigation into the Israeli military’s deliberate and brutal attack on Palestinians during nonviolent protests near the Gaza-Israeli border which began on Friday, March 30th.
Twenty-nine Palestinians have been killed and more than fourteen hundred injured – many of them by live fire and many seriously – by Israeli snipers in the planned and coordinated attack, 7 killed by Israeli fire, scores hurt in Gaza border protest. Over thirty thousand Palestinians were commemorating Land Day, which observes an Israeli attack in 1976 that killed six Arabs protesting Israeli occupation of their lands to build Jewish settlements.

The Green Party condemned the Israeli military’s action, and reiterated the Party’s call to cut off military aid until Israel observes human rights and equity in its treatment of Palestinians. The United States gives over $6 billion every year to Israel.
"Shielding Israel from investigation into an attack on innocent civilians is complicity in its criminality," said Green Party International Committee member Romi Elnagar. "International humanitarian law clearly prohibits this kind of violence against civilians. We support the demand by Human Rights Watch for the International Criminal Court to open formal investigation into crimes against humanity in Palestine."
Egypt, Jordan and the Arab League condemned Israel’s excessive use of force, and numerous Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations have also condemned the attack Kuwait, which represents Arab countries on the Security Council, called for an independent investigation.
The Green Party joins with the international community in mourning the loss of innocent life. We join in demanding that Israel cease its illegal activities and repeated violations of basic human rights through its blockade of Gaza, its imprisonment of Palestinian children, and encouraging destroying Palestinian food sources, and any other illegal or immoral activity aimed at making Palestinian life miserable if not impossible.
