Stands in Solidarity with Maryland Green Party FALLS CHURCH, VA – The Green Party of Virginia (GPVA) stands in solidarity with our comrades and allies in Maryland who are resisting the Del-Mar fracked gas pipeline being constructed along the Delmarva Peninsula. If this pipeline is completed it would further entrench our reliance on fossil fuels, and increases risks of environmental damage to Virginians on the Eastern Shore. The GPVA is committed to stopping all new fossil fuel infrastructure in Virginia, and instead push for a 100% renewable energy system. The GPVA has stood alongside countless activists, landowners, and workers to successfully oppose the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. We continue to stand in solidarity with those fighting the Mountain Valley Pipeline. We will oppose any attempt to extend additional fossil fuel infrastructure into the state and will work with those already opposing this project on the Delmarva Peninsula, including the Maryland Green Party. Doctors have known for decades that smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer. 9 out of 10 lung cancer deaths are caused by cigarette smoking or second hand smoke (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Report). Thousands die every year from secondhand smoke. The link is clear and well documented. Secondhand smoke kills. Outside of cancer, secondhand smoke is also responsible for effects ranging from nasal irritation, ear infections, asthma, reproductive issues, coronary heart disease, smoke, and heart attack. As Carlos Lazo and fellow Puentes Del Amor (Bridges of Love) walkers complete their march from Miami to Washington D.C., the Green Party of Florida (GPFL) hosted a solidarity virtual event as a prelude to the walkers' and caravaners' arrival at Lafayette Square, across from the White House, to demand that President Biden fulfill his campaign promise: to rescind the hundreds of sanctions imposed by his immediate predecessor, to return to the path toward normalization of relations with our neighbor 90 miles off our coast begun during Biden's tenure as Vice President, and for an end to the decades old embargo. PA Green Reflects on Summer Travel   by GPPA Co-chair Beth Scroggin As we progress into August, I find myself reflecting on how this summer has brought awareness of political issues we face, and how the Green Party has always been on the right side of history. Nearly every summer of my adult life, I have traveled to a different place in the U.S. or Canada and have sought to experience all that nature has to offer. My travels have all reinforced my sense of urgency when it comes to protecting our environment, and have highlighted the importance of one of the Green Party’s four pillars: Ecological Wisdom. ALBANY, NY – 8/3/21 - Green Party of New York officers demanded that Speaker Carl Heastie move immediately to impeach Gov. Cuomo and Leader Stewart-Cousins to remove him from office in light of the shocking findings contained within Attorney General Letitia James's investigation. They stated Cuomo's violation of state and federal laws indicate that he and his administration are deeply corrupt, and that he cannot credibly lead the state. Party leaders concluded that Cuomo's refusal to resign indicates that, like a rotten autocrat, he will never leave without being forced to do so. Continue reading
