Campaigning with Social Movements
Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 9pm – 10:30pm EDT
This teleconference/ webinar is designed especially for Greens who are running for local office as well as those considering a run in the near future. This call will cover the intersection between what are often seen as the Green Party's two missions -- to be a political party that runs candidates for office and to be a key ally in social movements for justice.
During this conference, we will discuss the following questions:
- How can we run candidates and campaigns more aligned with movement goals and objectives?
- How can we recruit movement leaders to run for office as Greens?
- How can we actually balance these dual purposes in real and practical ways, when they require different skill sets and tend to attract different types of people and volunteers?
This teleconference/webinar is designed for Greens who are running for office or considering a run in the near future as well as any key campaign staff such as campaign managers. The call will be led by Howie Hawkins.
Howie Hawkins is the 2017 Green candidate for Syracuse Mayor. Howie has run for office over 20 times, including for the U.S. Senate, Governor of New York, and Syracuse City Council. Howie is also a long-time activist, a co-founder of the Green Party of the United States, and a member of the Teamsters Local 317.
