WASHINGTON, DC -- Green presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney will visit the Washington, DC, area for three campaign appearances on Tuesday, February 19:

- Press conference, time (morning) and location (in Washington, DC) to be announced shortly: Ms. McKinney will discuss her Power to the People Campaign for the Presidency. Reporters and photographers are encouraged to attend.
- 12 noon: Ms. McKinney will speak to students and faculty at the Nyumburu Cultural Center, at the University of Maryland in College Park. The event will be open to the media and the public.
- 7:00 pm: Ms. McKinney will speak in Washington, DC, at Howard University in the Locke Hall auditorium. Ms. McKinney will show 'American Blackout', an award-winning documentary on the disenfranchisement of African-American voters in recent elections and the odds she faced in her own reelection to Congress. The event will be open to the media and the public.
Cynthia McKinney will be accompanied at these events by Capitol Resistance, a hip-hop-based community education campaign <http://www.voxunion.com/Capitol_Resistance_Brochure.pdf> <http://www.head-roc.com>.
Ms. McKinney, a former six-term US Representative from Georgia, came in first among the six Green candidates on the ballot in the February 12 primary election in the District of Columbia. Ms. McKinney also took the lead in Super Tuesday (February 5) primaries in Arkansas and Illinois.

The DC Statehood Green Party has qualified to send 16 delegates to the Green Party's 2008 Green National Nominating Convention in Chicago, July 10-13, at which 836 Green delegates will choose the party's presidential and vice presidential nominees.
