WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Green Party members are preparing to participate in the People's Climate Movement March for Jobs, Justice and the Climate on Saturday, April 29, in Washington, D.C. and in related marches and events elsewhere in many cities in states.
Green Party candidates, officeholders, and leaders are continuing to promote the "Green New Deal," a comprehensive plan to fight climate change and provide millions of new jobs by converting to a fossil-fuel-free economy.

Green Party leaders have sharply criticized the Trump Administration for its dismissal of scientific evidence regarding the climate crisis. See "Green Party calls Trump 'criminally negligent' for reckless policies as the climate crisis worsens" (March 16). On April 22, Greens took part in the March for Science.
Green Party leaders are calling the "100 by '50 Act" to be introduced this week by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-Oreg.) and Bernie Sanders (Ind.-Vt.) "too little, too late." Greens said the bill ignores warnings from scientists about the severity of the accelerating crisis.
The legislation proposes cap-and-trade schemes with incentives for energy providers and vehicle manufacturers for a gradual shift towards renewable energy and efficiency that don't begin to take effect until 2030. It sets 2050 as the year for ending reliance on fossil fuel energy. Both goals are far too late and too incremental to curb the advance of climate change.
"We can't trust Democratic leaders to make global warming a national emergency. Hillary Clinton and the 2016 Democratic platform refused to oppose fracking and drilling and rejected carbon taxes. We need to get Greens elected at every level of government, from local to national. We need to enact the Green New Deal because two-party politics as usual will not solve the climate crisis," said Mark Dunlea, a member of the Green Party of New York State Committee.
