Greens call for leniency, pardon for Whistleblower Daniel Hale

CORVALLIS, OR – Greens are committed to peace and non-violence including calling out the militarism that plagues our country. We stand in solidarity with whistleblower Daniel Hale who was prosecuted under the Espionage Act, and which unjustly denies him civil rights protections under the Whistle Blower Act of 1989. Facing 30 years in the federal penitentiary if found guilty at trial, Hale pleaded guilty to one count of leaking classified information on the U.S. drone and targeted assassination program. He now faces 10 years behind bars, sentencing by federal court by Judge Liam O'Grady on Tuesday July 27, 2021. He was sentenced to 47 months. Continue reading

ARPA funds should alleviate racial and economic disparities

More police officers, $366,000 on surveillance cameras, new uniforms for firefighters, $2 million for sailing lessons for a Stonington-based non-profit? These proposed American Rescue Plan allocations (ARPA) — intended to support COVID-19 response efforts, provide vital public services, bolster struggling households and businesses, and address systemic public health and economic challenges — are included in New London's spending plan for the $13,111,931 which was received in June of 2021. The response from city residents and non-profit organizations has, unsurprisingly, ranged from bafflement to distress to outrage. Continue reading

U.S. must stop its racist klan beatings and deportation of Haitian refugees at the border

For almost a week the world has witnessed U.S. border patrol agents physically terrorize Haitian refugees with lassos and whips! These inhumane images happening in Del Rio, Texas are disheartening. The hypocrisy of the Biden-Harris administration is exposed greatly! The Haitian refugees are at the border with legitimate claims! However, it is reported that more than 300 Haitian asylum seekers are being forced to return. The United States is in violation of International Law as it relates to Haiti and their efforts to seek asylum in the U.S. Continue reading

Fourteen Days and Counting

SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA – There are 14 days to help pass Single-Payer Health Insurance in Massachusetts. This is the year when we can make this happen. The Green-Rainbow Party is a strong advocate for health care for everyone. To our shame, among the 15 high-income countries, the United States ranks last in health care overall, despite spending far more of its gross domestic product on health care. Rather than wait for the federal government to pass a real single-payer bill, the GRP has joined the MASS-Care Coalition to support An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts. October 2021 Green Star

Working toward a future where people and planet are valued, and our government represents all of us. Running for Election as a Green Party Candidate  by GPPA Co-chair Beth Scroggin, Green Party of Pennsylvania Welcome to October, a month when our Pennsylvania fall foliage can astound us with its beauty, and when our Green Party electoral campaigns are in full swing! The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) is proud to be running ten candidates in local elections and is eagerly anticipating running a full slate of candidates for state-wide positions next year. My fondest memories of my work in the Green Party are from when I have worked for local campaigns: collecting nomination signatures, introducing candidates to potential voters at fall festivals, and knocking on doors to hand out literature and talk to voters about their concerns. . . . Counting the cost of Operation Enduring Freedom

Twenty years ago today – October 7, 2001 – the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom, a military invasion of Afghanistan that would prove to usher in the longest war in American history. The two-decade military occupation resulted in the death of over 47,000 Afghan civilians, 2,400 U.S. soldiers, 3,800 U.S. contractors, 66,000 Afghan soldiers, and 500 journalists and aid workers, while racking up a more than $2 trillion bill. The end result of these enormous expenditures and unconscionable human toll: Afghanistan lies in ruin, the Taliban is back in power and tens of thousands of people (military and civilian) have been physically or mentally disabled (a reality that will continue costing the U.S. government billions of dollars a year in healthcare costs for veterans for the foreseeable future).
