ST LOUIS – In the past 50 years whole sections of cities all over this country have been deliberately bled to death. Once livable and vibrant communities like St. Louis’ northside and some areas in Kansas City, Mo. now resemble ghost towns that mirror the tragic, compounding effects of systemic racism, on-going governmental corruption, economic disinvestment and long-term neglect. Large areas are already blighted and/or slated for re-development—if city governments had their way.

HARTFORD – The Green Party of Connecticut supports the call by activists in Willimantic, Connecticut, to ban the display of the so-called Blue Lives Matter flag on the website of the Willimantic Police Department. No matter the history that some wish to ascribe to it, and no matter their intentions, the flag – a black and white American flag with a single blue line – is so openly and closely associated with the rise of ultra-right, white nationalist and white supremacist groups that it has become a symbol of bigotry, not of respect for law enforcement officers.

The Wisconsin Green Party denounces the decision of the Kenosha District Attorney to not file charges against the police officer who shot Jacob Blake 7 times in the back, a shameful continuation of a long history of police impunity for violence against Black, indigenous, and people of color in Wisconsin and the United States.

ROCHESTER, NY – If you're a Green, or Green-friendly, you know that the 2020 election results were not a cause for celebration.  Yes, we're getting rid of Trump, but not the causes of Trumpism.  There is still a lot of work to do and as usual, the Greens are getting down to it.

ST LOUIS – After George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis on May 25 people across the US have examined whether streets, statues, parks and schools were named after racists. What should be the criteria for renaming? How should new names be determined? What is Teens Taking Action in St. Louis (TTAStL) doing about racism? If you live in University City, Missouri, do you think the streets Pershing, Jackson, Amherst and Wilson should be renamed? Though the webinar is hosted from St. Louis you are welcome to join from anywhere in the US.

We, the Green Party of Philadelphia (GPOP), wish to express our deepest, warmest condolences to the family and friends of Walter Wallace Jr., another young Black man mercilessly gunned down by officers of the Philadelphia Police Department (PD).

We condemn in the strongest possible terms the Philadelphia PD’s over reliance on lethal force, and we unapologetically support the constitutionally protected right of protesters to rise up against yet another police murder. Despite the fervent efforts of Walter Wallace Jr.’s mother to calm her son, the whole world witnessed how Wallace Jr. was shot and killed in front of his mother, as she begged them not to shoot.

Editor’s Note: According to results of the 6th annual Power of the Sister Vote poll, presented by Black Women’s Roundtable and ESSENCE, Black women’s confidence in the Democratic Party has fallen slightly in 2020—71% vs 73% in 2019 and 2018. Black women (80%) also overwhelmingly gave Trump a failing grade. Below, Angela Walker, vice presidential nominee for Green Party of the United States, explains why she believes neither major party centers the needs and concerns of Black people.

Thursday we celebrated the formation of the Black Panther Party 54 years ago in Oakland, California.

The Black Panther Party clearly showed the willingness of regular people to organize and take action to protect their communities.

Today, we find ourselves still calling for the changes that these brave people were fighting for in the 1960s: community control of the police, reparations paid to African Americans, and social/economic
equality.

The formation of the United States was based on white supremacy. This country was built on the backs of enslaved Africans, who were never compensated for the past four hundred plus years of their forced labor and suffering. Exploitation, land-loss, destruction of original identity, genocide, state violence and systemic racism continued in chattel slavery’s aftermath and still haunt the present in manifold ways.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Hundreds gathered in both St. Paul and Minneapolis Thursday to express outrage over the release of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. He is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. A common sentiment among the two groups of protesters was that Chauvin getting out on bond shows the injustice of the court system.

In St. Paul, marchers dragged body bags and carried gravestone-shaped signs marking the dead.
