FALLS CHURCH, Va – On Wednesday, March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to be a pandemic. The uncertain nature and health impacts of the virus driving an abundance of caution has already caused a great deal of disruption globally. This disruption will likely continue and worsen in the coming weeks.

PITTSBURGH – Out of an abundance of caution, the Green Party of Allegheny County is canceling our planned canvassing and public events in March to help contain the coronavirus. Holding public events then going door-to-door canvassing is a recipe for spread of the virus, so we're cancelling to reduce the risk of exposure especially for the most vulnerable in our community

The COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting nearly every facet of life in many communities. We must practice “social distancing” as one of the tactics to contain —or at least slow— the outbreak but we must also practice solidarity and mutual aid wherever conditions allow. For this public health crisis is simultaneously an economic crisis for countless people impacted by the virus and corresponding quarantines.

And the reason for that is simple: our political system (the two-party cartel) and economic system (capitalism) have utterly failed us. But it didn’t have to be this way. For years the Green Party has campaigned for:

The spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) is a challenge to us as a society. It is already exposing deep failures in our political and economic system, including the moral abomination of a pay-or-die healthcare system, the refusal by political leaders to heed scientists’ warnings with policies to protect the public, and a precarious economy that leaves too many working people vulnerable to illness and economic ruin. 

HARTFORD, CT – Due to fears of spread of COVID-19, the Green Party of Connecticut will be holding it's March 18 SCC meeting online (using ZOOM) rather than in-person. (Not surprisingly, like many others around the state, the Newington Library is canceling all meetings for the rest of the month.)

Information on joining the meeting will be sent out shortly. If you believe you may need help to get your computer set up to participate optimally in the meeting, please send us a note. The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) is canceling our March 21-22 Harrisburg Convention. As a measure of caution and to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Steering Committee of the GPPA has decided social distancing measures are appropriate at this time.

Several communities, public services, and business are taking these actions that are expected to lessen the effects of COVID-19. We know that our organizing efforts are increasing over the next several months and that by pumping the breaks today we can aid in ensuring COVID-19 is diminished effectively and as quickly as possible.

FALLS CHURCH, Va – UPDATE: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the subsequent state of emergency declaration by Governor Ralph Northam, the Green Party of Virginia is temporarily suspending in-person petitioning. Instead, we will be petitioning the state government to waive the petitioning portion of ballot access. But we still need your help to get on the ballot this year! How can you help?

The coronavirus is just beginning to hit the United States. The numbers of cases are small now but all signs signal a coming rapid increase and a public health emergency that the US is not equipped to handle. This deadly virus has a death rate 20 times greater than the flu, which kills tens of thousands of people in the United States each year.

The coronavirus crisis is exposing the gaping holes in the US healthcare system—holes in the health insurance system, in healthcare equipment and care facilities, and in global infectious disease control and public health protection programs.

By now we’ve all heard about the coronavirus, but have you heard that people potentially exposed to the virus aren’t being tested because they don’t have health insurance?
 
Healthcare is a public need. We need each other to be healthy so that we can all thrive.
