Anti-war protest in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH – A number of Greens were in attendance at the Troops Out of Iraq / No War on Iran rally on Saturday. It was an eventful rally as speakers talked about the true costs of war and the need to end US imperialism. David Hughes spoke on behalf of the Green Party about the US’s long history of lying to get into wars. The event was even disrupted by apparent Nazis shouting anti-semitic slogans, but the crowd gave them the boot pretty quickly once identified.

Maine protestors voice concern following air strike in Iraq

PORTLAND (WGME) -- Dozens of Mainers are voicing anger following the air strike in Iraq. More than 40 people gathered in Congress Square to demonstrate early Saturday afternoon.

Bruce Gagnon, who opposes the air strike in Baghdad which killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani , believes it was a bad call. "Our country has just done something that I think is incredibly insane and provocative," said Gagnon.

Terminate the war machine

Lost amongst the media's coverage of Trump's assassination of Soleimani is the fact that, last month, the Democratic Party caved to GOP demands by allowing more funding for war with Iran.

Like most members of the Democratic Party, my opponent, the 14-term Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, voted YES to more arms for Trump, all the while pretending to oppose Trump by voting for impeachment. This lines up well with Democratic Party history: Remember when Hillary Clinton said the U.S. should "totally obliterate" Iran?

Green Party of Virginia condemns recent airstrikes on Iraq

  • Green Party of Virginia Calls for De-Escalation of Tension

RICHMOND, VA -- The Green Party of Virginia condemns the recent airstrike on Iraqi soil by the Trump administration which targeted and killed high ranking Iranian and Iraqi officials. This strike is likely illegal under U.S. and international law, made without consultation of Congress, the United Nations or the Iraqi government. The Pentagon has also failed to provide exculpatory evidence of a direct threat against American soil, despite its claims of acting in self-defense.

A new year and a new war

No level of U.S. aggression toward other nations is acceptable. However, this week's drone assassination of Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani could launch our country’s war machine into overdrive at a scale we have not seen in some years. And that puts countless more lives in danger around the world.

Trump is a monster, a criminal and he is responsible for this attack. But the larger crisis, the crisis that brought us Trump in the first place, is the domination of our government by two parties who march to the beat drummed out by War and Wall Street. When the Republican and Democratic parties are both controlled by war hawks, who is left to stand for peace?

Indiana Green Party Statement

INDIANAPOLIS –  The Indiana Green Party condemns the recent unilateral U.S. killing of Qasem Soleimani, the escalating use of military force and might, and the above reproach aggression by the military-industrial complex and its enablers. Our actions facilitate a decline in stability in the Middle East resulting in a cycle of violent aggression and retaliation. The murder of Iranian military leader, Qasem Soleimani, further threatens stability and is one of many examples of violence giving rise to more complex conflict throughout the world. The long-term consequences of such a careless foreign policy will further erode a path towards peace.

US Senate candidate Lisa Savage condemns airstrike against Iran

  • Calls for restoration of congressional authority over US military

U.S. Senate Candidate Lisa Savage, of the Maine Green Independent Party, strongly condemns Thursday's airstrike by the U.S. military near the Baghdad, Iraq, airport. At least five individuals were killed in the drone attack, including Major General Qasem Soleimani, of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard and Chief of its Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, pro-Iranian chief of an umbrella group for Iraqi militias.

Hoffman calls out both Bookers for silence on the NDAA

By Madelyn Hoffman
December 23, 2019

On December 17th, the U.S. Senate, by a vote of 86-8, passed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This bill increases the military budget to an obscene $738 billion. Senator Cory Booker did not vote. Neither did Senators Harris, Klobuchar, Sanders or Warren. How can presidential candidate Booker speak out in a national interview exactly one month ago today about the need to contain military spending and executive power in declaring war and then not vote on the NDAA which both increases military spending and fails to rein in executive power? This is unacceptable -- New Jersey is the loser here.

SPRINGFIELD, MO – In Missouri's halls of power, the Green New Deal is often used as a punching bag.

When the state's dominant political party came together for its annual convention this year, Republicans like U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner blasted Democrats' wide-ranging plan to tackle climate change as a waste of money. Republicans who dominate Jefferson City agreed, writing resolutions urging the rest of Missouri's representatives to oppose the idea.
