WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The National Women's Caucus of the Green Party of the United States has endorsed the March 24 "March for Our Lives" and other student walk-outs in protest of gun violence in their schools in the wake of the horrific mass murders at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018, in which 17 people were killed and 14 were wounded.

Slayings at schools where parents trust that their children will be safe and protected appear to be on the rise. The Chicago Tribune has written that between 2000 and 2010, of the recorded 57 shooting incidents in 36 countries, 28 of them occurred in the United States.

Meet the Indigenous Woman Running for Arizona Senate

Eve-Reyes-Aguirre-interview.jpg

It's not every day a woman runs for Senate—and definitely not in Arizona. Eve Reyes-Aguirre won't let that deter her, though. The 42 year old is trying to become first woman senator in the state and the first indigenous woman senator, at that.

Reyes-Aguirre, an Izkaloteka Mexican Native who lives in Phoenix, is running as a third-party candidate with the Green Party and still needs to secure 1,000 signatures before she can appear on the ballot come November, but she's not worried. She's got until May and already has about 400.

PA-womens-march.jpg

When citizens and activists take to the streets for the Women's March in Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 20, the Green Party will proudly be among those participating. Greens plan to assemble on the Ben Franklin Parkway, and the party is applauding the spirit and mission of the action.
"The self-empowerment of American women is a beautiful and a transformative movement that's emerged, despite the very troubling backdrop of our country under Trump. There is no doubt that this administration has made clear the urgency of a new approach to politics, but the need is longstanding and long overdue," said Kristin Combs, chair of the Green Party of PA. "The mission statement of the Women's March is very reflective of the Green values we promote everyday. The call for mobilization of diverse communities within those communities is as Green as it gets. The demand for justice, building new structures, embracing diversity, ecology and civil rights, with local non-violent action is exactly what the Green Party has been about since our founding."
