Happy Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) Day! In fact, January is Ranked Choice Voting month. RCV is a voting system that’s long been championed by the Green Party, and it has been catching on with more voters than ever.

RCV is one part of a package of real electoral reforms advocated for by the Green Party to democratize elections. Voters want more choice and the opportunity to vote their values. RCV means we can all rank the candidates we support, instead of voting the lesser of two evils. There are quite a few benefits for ranked choice voting, especially for Greens.

As ranked-choice voting gains steam elsewhere in the country, a leader of Wisconsin's Green Party is calling for that method of electing government officials to be adopted here, as the future of democracy and a way to increase enthusiasm for voting.

"The current system is centered around getting people to fear and hate the other side," said party co-chair Dave Schwab. "Ranked-choice frees people from the idea that you have to vote for the lesser evil."

PHILADELPHIA – Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Republican Party proposed changes to the state's 1938 Election Code. The bill, HB 1300, was ultimately vetoed by Governor Tom Wolf in June. However, Pennsylvania's decades-old election code does need serious analysis and change, especially in light of lessons learned in 2020 while trying to hold elections during a global pandemic. The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) had previously submitted some ideas to the public, and I would like to revisit and expand on those ideas.

• Illinois Greens will continue with the fight for Equal Ballot Access and Ranked Choice Voting!

CHICAGO – Equal Ballot Access House Bill 2398 would have reduced the petition requirements for new parties. Ranked Choice Voting HB2416/SB1785 would have eliminated the so called “spoiler effect” when there are more than two political parties’ and independent candidates running in a general election.

• For integrity’s sake, HR1/S1 needs to be clean of political conflicts of interest. But in its campaign finance section, it is not.

At no time since the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act have voting rights in the United States been under greater threat.

In the 10 years preceding the November 2020 elections, 25 states passed lawsrestricting the ability to vote. Since November 2020, Republican state lawmakers have introduced more than 250 additional bills in 43 states to restrict voting, most surgically designed to suppress the vote of millions of Americans — especially Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian and the young.

• ICE Out of NJ Speak Out!

TRENTON, NJ – We had great support for last month's solidarity event. Tomorrow we will be hosting two events with our YES-Young Eco-Socialists Caucus. First, in solidarity with Alabama Amazon Workers and then only two miles away ICE Out of NJ Speak Out! We as a party have signed onto and support the March 2o "International's Day of Solidarity With Alabama Amazon Workers & Against Union Busting on World Day Against Racism."

The “For the People Act” (H.R.1/S.1) passed the House on March 3 and is now under consideration by the Senate. The bill was also adopted by the House in 2019 but had no chance of passage in the Senate with the Republicans in control. But now that this voting and elections reform bill has become a real possibility with Democratic control, it is receiving closer scrutiny from movement progressives, if not yet congressional progressives.

Greens knew from the start that 2020 would be a tough year for their presidential ticket. The election would be a referendum on Trump. For most progressives, Anybody But Trump would do.

Our campaign believed that an ecosocialist program is needed for real solutions to the life-or-death issues of climate, inequality, racism, and war. We believed that the way to defeat the Trump Republicans was for the left to put forward its own program and not rely on the Democrats’ pallid centrism, which would not speak to the economic and social anxieties that the Trump far-right has been mobilizing around with racist and conspiracy scapegoating. 

Indianapolis – The Indiana Green Party (INGP) condemns the violence that erupted at the Capitol Building. Direct physical violence is always unacceptable, and we must seek to move past partisanship and not fall prey to divide and conquer tactics that pit people against each other for the benefit of the powerful few.

The Green Party fully embraces nonviolent civil disobedience which has formed an important part of many struggles for justice over the years. We cannot continue allowing any violence to recklessly and egregiously endanger others
