An Open Letter to District of Columbia Authorities
In allowing coup supporters to lay siege to the Venezuelan embassy, D.C. Police are violating the First Amendment and District of Columbia law
At this writing, a rightwing mob of supporters of Juan Guaido, (the self-described, U.S.-named “interim president” of Venezuela, who has no legitimate, lawful claim to that office) has been blocking access to the Venezuelan embassy, located at 1099 30th St., NW, in Washington, D.C., since April 30th. This mob has been actively supported by the Metropolitan District of Columbia Police and the U.S. Secret Service (SS).

This is the 34th day of our living in the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, DC. We are prepared to stay another 34 days, or however long is needed to resolve the embassy dispute in a peaceful way consistent with international law.
This memo is being sent to the US and Venezuela as well as members of our Collective and allies. We are encouraging people to publish this memo as a transparent process is needed to prevent the US from making a unilateral decision that could impact the security of embassies around the world and lead to military conflict.

With the electrical power still turned off, information from inside the Embassy has been scarce. However members of the Poor People's Army staged a sit-in this morning at the offices of PEPCO, the local power company. The sit-in ended when PEPCO promised to call the Embassy Saturday to discuss the situation.

Gerry Condon was just arrested for throwing a cucumber.
Gerry Condon, President of the Veterans for Peace, was joining with other members of the Embassy Protection Collective outside the Venezuelan embassy trying to deliver food to us inside the embassy. When they were blocked by the violent opposition Gerry attempted to throw a cucumber to me in the window.

The Green Party of Colorado (GPCO) strongly condemns today’s attempted coup in Venezuela by the US government-backed, right-wing terrorist group led by Juan Guaidó. The Venezuelan government and military have exhibited great restraint in dealing with these elements, which have been responsible for destroying medical clinics and setting pro-Chavista Afro-Venezuelans on fire in the streets.

According to the Associated Press, opposition leader and self-proclaimed President Juan Guaido launched a military coup attempt against the Nicolas Maduro government about 7:30 am (EDT) this morning. While details are scarce, the action appears to have only limited military support.
The Green Party joins with the United Nations in recognition of Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.

April 30, 2019 – Shortly after 7:30 EDT this morning the Associated Press reported that Juan Guaido, the self-proclaimed President and defender of democracy in Venezuela, launched a military coup.
The report from AP went on to say "Venezuelan Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said on Twitter that Nicolas Maduro’s government is confronting a small “coup attempt” led by military “traitors” backed by right-wing opponents."
Details are extremely scarce.
