| BASIC FACTS
1. Registering
to vote as a Green is a way of bringing about the kind
of world you want. Party affiliation is like a vote, only more
powerful
and
cumulative, as it doesn't begin and end with an election.
Join the party that stands for your
values, instead of one that is the 'lesser
of evils'
2. Registering Green makes
a clear and effective political statement. The more people who
register Green,
the stronger the Green Party will be, and the more all parties
will
take green issues and green voters seriously.*
3. Registering Green does not limit your
voting options in the general election. Since you can vote
for any candidate, choosing a party is really about what you
believe in--and making it happen. Party registration is the
closest thing to proportional representation we have in this
country: it provides a strong indicator of which issues are
important to the populace.
4. The Green
Party does not accept donations from corporations. Individual citizen
support and grassroots
democracy are the foundation of the Green Party. Big-money
interests cannot buy their way into the party.
5. The Green
Party represents most Americans' views on issues like the Iraq
and Afghanistan Wars, health
care, a healthy environment, campaign finance
reform, corporate power, genetically
modified foods, and others. See The
Biggest Media Sin, by Sam Smith of the Progressive Review
and read the Green Party Platform.
6. The Green
Party is the
party of peace. Both the Democrats and the Republicans
are supported heavily by the weapons, fossil fuel and nuclear
industries and others. Greens are activists for peace, health,
justice, and the well-being of present and future
generations. We believe in sustainability and thinking seven generations
ahead.
*From Richard Winger, Ballot
Access News: "States
in which people can register Green on either the state, county
or legislative district level and the government keeps a tally
are: AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, NE,
NJ, NV, NM, NY, OR, PA, UT and WV. If the Greens were on the
ballot in IA and RI, their registrations would be counted. States
in which people can register Green but the government presently
won't tally are: KS, NH, NC, OK, SD, WY. However, it is possible
that with some effort, including legal and legislative changes,
the situation in these latter states will change." |
