The Internet began as a communications platform for the people of world, to bridge social and economic barriers, and embrace our meritocratic principles and way of life. As the Internet grew, financial interests of large multinational corporations and surveillance interests of the government diminished the power of citizens to mobilize and communicate freely. Electronic security and privacy can be far better than it is today but it requires will power and a willingness to improve.
