My name is Craig Cayetano, and I am running once more for council in Ward 3 to be an advocate for everyone. I'm proud to say I've resided for over 19 years here in Hawthorne and still continue to stand for and speak up on issues impacting us all.

I have also participated in The Citizens Fire Academy in 2021 and Citizens EMS Academy in 2022 and respect the hard work, time and care for the community all our first responders and volunteers provide day in and day out. I was the first Independent-Green Party Candidate endorsed by Sierra Club NJ and NJ League of Conservation Voters for both the 2021 and now 2023 campaigns. I am half Peruvian and am proud to have been endorsed this week by the Latino Action Network. Our town is expanding and becoming ever more diverse, so we need our governing body to reflect this as well.

I have been in retail sales for 23 years. This has given me an opportunity to meet many different people throughout New Jersey. There's often a bit of negotiating involved in sales, but mainly it's about learning to listen to what people want and expect of you.

I constantly speak up on various issues facing Hawthorne, whether it's about development, safer streets and roadways, access to affordable housing, or flooding and the issues regarding upgrading our water infrastructure. A few years have passed since the process began but still only incremental changes are occurring.

There are many more issues that require someone with ties to the environmental community, strong negotiating skills, and the commitment to take issues up through the county and state. But mainly being on the Hawthorne Town Council involves being proactive and staying connected to the people, listening to them and figuring out how to proceed and resolve an issue together.

My campaign is all about consistency, compassion and being conscientious. My ideas are not all new. Our website has over 40+ proposals tailored over the last few years. Our consistent message and drive is to accomplish these during my elected term. While some projects need a 10 or 30-year plan, we have to pave the road one brick at a time.

Every vote matters especially in local and off-cycle election years. Your voice is with your vote, so I ask once again for the opportunity to earn it this year. Our campaign is on Row C for Craig. I continue to advocate for everyone here; homeowners, renters, youth, seniors and those that are normally apathetic to voting.
