It's Springtime in Texas
The Green Party of Texas (GPTX) is blooming! We've got new groups starting up all over. Travis County, Dallas County, & others, too! Keep an eye on our calendar & your county's official Facebook page for the latest info. If you'd like to join the fun, visit https://www.txgreens.org/how_to_start_a_local_group
Participation in party events or groups is essential for serving on our committees. See "Volunteer Opportunities" below for more information on that. If you have been involved & would like to serve on a committee, let us know ASAP, so we can approve your request.
State Convention
If you're a delegate, you already know that our 2024 State Convention will be this Saturday, April 13th. If you're not a delegate, but would like to attend, RSVP here before the 13th: https://www.txgreens.org/2024_state_convention
Green Education, Onboarding, Discussion, & Encouragement: G.E.O.D.E.
No session this month, because the State Convention is the previous day, so the next GEODE call is SUNDAY, May 12th! If there's a particular topic you'd like to discuss, let us know.
Action Highlight
Fight Death Row
Texas still employs the primitive & cruel practice of capital punishment. The next execution is scheduled for June 26th. Here's how we can stop it:

GPTX Reading Group
April 21st @ 4pm
Please read the first chapter of Let This Radicalize You:

It's controversial, it's inspirational, follow that link above to learn more. It's sure to get some conversations started.
RSVP here before April 21st to receive the Zoom info.
Volunteer Opportunities
SEC
Wes Gaige has volunteered up to serve as our Secretary. Hunter Crow has resigned from the position of State Cochair & the SEC has appointed Matt Bauman as the interim cochair. Dr. Julián Villarreal's term as At-Large member of the SEC has ended, but the SEC was pleased to appoint him to serve again. These offices will be up for confirmation by delegates at the State Conference. If they do, that still leaves Treasurer & 1 open At-Large position on the State Executive Committee available for a helpful person. Our current treasurer, Nancy Gage, will be running for reappointment, but if you'd like to be considered, let us know. More information about these positions can be found here: https://www.txgreens.org/bylaws#A2
Standing Committees
Several seats are unfilled on the national standing committees. At the Spring State Meeting, we filled a few seats, but many remain open. The SEC can approve appointment at any time, if you’re interested in serving in one of these positions, or would like to help with a smaller project, tell us at [email protected].
Visual / Graphic Artists
Are you an artist? The donation of a logo design or graphic for merch would be a great help. A button-making party could be a great activity for your local group, but maybe you have other fun ideas. Let us know!
Social Media
To help boost our social media posting frequency, a project has begun - a content calendar. If you have a little free time to research a month or just a week or two, so we have a backup topic for each day, email [email protected] to help out. There's hundreds of days in the year, but the more help we have, the easier it'll be.
Register Some Voters!
Help eliminate a barrier to voting by getting people to register. Head to this site for more info on how that's done:
https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/pamphlets/deputy.shtml
Group Highlight:
NORML - National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws
https://www.texasnorml.org/
There are a number of reasons why we support reforming Texas' cannabis laws, but the war on drugs has been disastrous & cost too many lives. Checking out NORML may be a good first step to changing things in your area.
Our Dentonian Greens have worked with another group, Decriminalize Denton, to get a decriminalization resolution on the ballot & it passed with a huge majority. The city council decided to ignore the will of the people, but WE FIGHT ON!
If you know other organizations that are putting our key values in action, send us the info so we can get the word out.
In Solidarity,
Green Party of Texas
