One day is not enough
Every year, Earth Day is a reminder to me that one day is not enough. We need to take time EVERY day to do our part for the planet. Portland is at a crossroads. Do we want to act boldly to meet the demand of the moment, protect our citizens, and expand sustainable economic opportunities, or will we settle for business as usual?
Like most Portlanders, I love the outdoors and want to protect our environment. We know climate change is here, affecting every person on the planet, and Portland is no exception. Help me win this race and deliver bold climate action by donating $5 right now!
The solutions are not rocket science. 44% of our local greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. Portland can once again become the coolest cycling city in America with safe sidewalks for pedestrians, cyclable streets, and even some car-free streets. We need to electrify the city's vehicles, expand mass transit into the suburbs, and support regional high speed rail.
My environmental priorities go beyond reducing emissions, because I am committed to preparing for the future and mitigating risks from potential disasters. My absolute top concern is protecting Portlanders from hazards posed by the Critical Energy Infrastructure (CEI) Hub located on the Willamette River.
We are one earthquake or human error away from a bigger disaster than the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The CEI Hub poses a serious health, safety, and environmental threat, and the oil trains that rumble through North and Northeast Portland only intensify those risks. Learn more here.
The good news is that our city government has the power to reduce (and eliminate) the risks posed by the CEI Hub, reduce emissions from transportation, and invest in a sustainable future by working with Multnomah County and our state and federal partners.
Help me make Portland safer, greener, and more sustainable by chipping in $5 now!
Gratefully,
