Brenda K. Sanders for 12th District Representative in U.S. Congress

I believe the 12th District of Michigan is ready for a new chapter — one where the issues that matter most to our community are treated as genuine priorities, not afterthoughts. I want to ensure that every resident has a voice and a stake in our shared future.
I’m running for U. S. House of Representatives in the 12th District of MIchigan because I see what the 12th District of Michigan can become. With leadership that puts its community first, we can build something worth being proud of and cherished.
I focused my law practice in the criminal law, civil law, personal injury, workplace discrimination, and probate areas.
I practiced in both the federal and state courts. I also worked as a law clerk in the area of medical malpractice for a major Detroit law firm while attending law school. Additionally, I served as a Washtenaw County Public Defender for a year after I passed the Michigan Bar. My departure from my judicial position took place after I reported to the Obama Administration FBI that I received a tip about the sudden death of two of my judicial colleagues. I further warned, that I was in fear for my safety.
Notwithstanding the above-described misfortunes, I am concerned about the dangerous and looming environmental hazards that we presently experience, along with the steady rising price of everything in our economy. I want to sponsor major efforts to make sure the federal minimum wage is at 25.00 or more, and that it continues to rise regularly and simultaneous to cost of living increases.
Additionally, I will sponsor bills that will promote the passage of laws that will provide for a lineage based six-figure payment of cash reparations to the current descendants of the slaves that were forced to work without compensation. The slave workforce helped to build our nation's current economy. The concept of paying reparations is not new. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed a bill into law that provided for reparations to be paid to the descendants of Japanese Americans who were interred during WW2. The reparations payments were for $20,000.
Lastly, I will sponsor a bill that will provide for the payment of a monthly payout of $1,000 to qualifying citizens, to make up for the loss of job opportunities brought about by the advent of artificial intelligence technology.
I have a proven track record of leadership as a trial attorney, judge, and as an advocate for social change.
If elected, I would like to start my Congressional career by sponsoring a bill to declare Election Day a federal holiday. I would like to clear as many obstacles to voting as possible. Voting is a right that must not be curtailed. The right to vote must be expanded and preserved at all costs!!
I am also will continue to strenuously advocate for laws that will preserve our rights to a chemical free environment. I want to also sponsor amendments to the Violence Against Women Act to include the prosecution of government officials that offend and abuse the rights of women! We deserve more protection from our government!
