Victories!

During the presidential campaigns, the Green Party is condemned by many for only running residential candidates. Nothing could be further from the truth.

At least 160 Greens hold elected office as of the November 2024 elections. Greens have been elected at least 1580 times in history in the United States — and over 6800 times Greens have run for public office in the United States, with 62% for county, municipal, educational and special district offices and 38% for state and federal partisan office.

Collected below are a handful of stories about our winning candidates.

The vast majority of Green Party candidates run for local office. Thirty-five percent of them win. This webinar introduced three Green candidates who were recently elected to city/town council positions. Hear the stories they tell about both their successful campaigns and their contributions to their communities as elected officials. Ask questions, learn, and be inspired by their determination and example.

The Green Party of California is thrilled to share Green Party’s latest successes! California Green candidates secured a total of 14 local office seats: 2 City Council, 4 School Board, 5 Water or Irrigation Board, and 3 additional positions. A special shout out to Randy Marx who received the highest number of votes, totaling 2,644 for the Fair Oaks Water District, Division 4 seat in Sacramento County.

On November 5, the Green Party nominee for two citywide partisan posts outpolled the Republican Party, in the District of Columbia.

For Delegate to the U.S. House, Green nominee Kymone Freeman received 21,873 votes, and Republican nominee Myrtle Patricia Alexander received 19,765.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Green Party of the United States released its candidate numbers for 2024, including the November 5 general election. Details are below.

Gloria Caballero Roca was interviewed on the November 7 Greenstream, presented by the Media Committee of the Green Party of the United States.

Just as Gloria joined the program, she received word that she had elected to the Holyoke, Massachusetts Public School Board, Ward 4.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Green Party of Minnesota endorsed candidate Samantha Pree Stinson made history by becoming the first Black & Latino woman elected to the Minneapolis Board of Estimation and Taxation. Ms. Stinson went live after the election to talk about this victorious moment. To hear her speak more about it: Samantha speaks after the history-making election

The Green Party of Minnesota would like to thank Jennifer McPherson and Kati Medford who both ran great campaigns.

Chris Alders of the Green Party of Canada has compiled a series of successes by Green Parties around the world in 2018 and I added a couple of more. The successes show Greens can win. My sense is that despite the structural obstacles we face in the United States, if we face up to our internal shortcomings and build a serious political party that represents movement issues, the working class, poor and middle class and is diverse by race, gender, and age, and clearly stands as the independent, opposition to the two Wall Street parties, we will start to win. And, once we start, momentum will rapidly grow because people want a viable alternative to two corporate parties they see as corrupt.

The Green Party of Pennsylvania is celebrating several election victories for 2017. Out of ten candidates running, six were elected to office. Jules Mermelstein, statewide candidate for PA Superior Court Judge was not one of those elected. However his strong showing was a victory in its own right, ensuring minor party status for the Green Party of Pennsylvania for two more years.

More than one out of every 20 voters across the state voted for Jules. His vote count of 106,131 was more than eight times the number of registered Greens in the state, showing strong cross-party support. Jules needed to get 2% of the number of votes received by the winner with the highest vote total in order for the Green Party to keep minor party designation in PA. Achieving over 9% statewide and over 10% in 15 Counties, Jule’s campaign for Superior Court Judge was a victory for PA Greens.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Green Party racked up several victories in local races in the Nov. 7 general election.

At least 127 Green candidates were on the ballot on Nov. 7, of whom at least 22 were elected. 13 ran for state or federal office, so the municipal victory count is 22 out 114 races. In all 2017 elections (not just Nov. 7), Greens won 44 out of 164 races.

With LaTrisha Vetaw election as Minneapolis Park and Recreation Commissioner at Large, Greens now have two elected officials, Vetaw and Cam Gordon, who was re-elected to his city council position.
