The 1886 Chicago Haymarket Riots marked the beginnings of what we know as the International Workers Day. Today on May 1, 2023, workers' struggles remain at the forefront of our communities' economic and social challenges created in the exploitative nature of capitalism.

TODAY, and every day, our Green values support workers' rights and protections, labor unions, thriving wages, workers' ownership and control, democratic workplaces, and community-based economies. 

We, in the Green Party of California recognize the fundamental role of capitalism in all injustice and exploitation. We acknowledge that the same forces and interests that exploit and oppress workers for profit, are also waging global wars, destabilizing the climate, and installing undemocratic governments and political structures around the world because these are all means to a profitable end.

Our EcoSocialist Platform aims to build a socially and racially just, ecologically sustainable, democratic and peaceful society that exists in harmony with nature. On this May Day, we honor workers' struggle and commit to a society that addresses human need over capitalists' greed.
