Free Dana Beal
The Bronx Greens call for the release of marijuana movement political prisoner Dana Beal from jail. The incarceration of the 77-year-old face of the Left marijuana movement and Ibogaine activist, for the alleged possession of a large amount of marijuana is not just about him, but about all the hundreds of thousands of people currently suffering from the continuance of the war on marijuana. According to the FBI's statistics in 2022 over a quarter of a million Americans were arrested for marijuana.
"Irwin Dana Beal is behind bars tonight in Gooding County Jail in Southern Idaho, charged with felony marijuana trafficking. Bail was set at $250,000... Beal is known to traffic in large quantities. When asked how much, a Sheriff's Office rep said it was 'quite a bit.' The quantity was actually 26 pounds."
One of the founders of the YIPPIES, the founder of Cures Not Wars, the NYC Marijuana March, and the World Wide Million Marijuana March, and Ibogaine activist, Beal has been an advocate for Harm Reduction policies and the repeal of drug war laws for over forty years. Beal's activism has saved hundreds of people's lives by enabling HIV-positive people, people dealing with the severity of chemotherapy, and other ailments to have access to holistic medicines that complement their other treatments. Beal's Ibogaine advocacy is a key component in a Harm Reduction program in which the West African root Ibogaine can be used to help people who want to stop using drugs get through their withdrawal symptoms. Ibogaine more than doubles the chances that people treated with it won’t relapse. Ibogaine also shows much promise in treating other serious neurologically-based ailments.
All marijuana prisoners are political prisoners. Marijuana can treat numerous ailments, including PTSD, coping with chemotherapy, chronic pain, wasting disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and other ailments too numerous to list here. Beal has been advocating for the repeal of all marijuana laws ever since the movement to legalize marijuana was considered a fringe issue. The NYC Marijuana Parades, the World Wide Marijuana Movement, marijuana, and the Drug War are no longer fringe issues.
His tireless dedication to the movement has continued since the 1960s, right down to his current arrest. Yes, many states have legalized marijuana. The Federal government and other states, including Idaho, have not legalized marijuana. The drug war continues. Please contribute to Dana Beal's bail fund. He is a 77-year-old heart attack and stroke survivor who is not a threat to society. The world is a better place because of Beal's lifetime contributions to the social discourse, and his direct actions that provided leadership in the struggles to end the Drug War and the Harm Reduction movement. Dana Beal's life has been dedicated to compassion for those less fortunate.
