Flock cameras and mass surveillance keep coming up at our tables. People are concerned, people are frustrated, and people want to do something about it. Let’s give that frustration somewhere to go.
Join the Green Party of Allegheny County on Friday, October 23, from 2:30–6:00 PM, at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and 9th Street, on the public street across from Arts Landing and CAPA, for a rally against Flock surveillance in our communities.
Arts Landing has the most condensed cluster of Flock cameras in the city, with twenty two in and around their property. Flock cameras are meant to track license plates, but nine of these are not pointed at roads. Five of these cameras are pointed toward CAPA’s middle and high school entrance on Ninth Street.
Our neighborhoods, playgrounds, and gathering spaces should be places where people can live their lives without being constantly watched. We’re coming together to make these cameras visible, talk with our neighbors about what they mean for our privacy, and build public pressure to get the Flock out.
New to the Greens? Been waiting for us to hit the streets? Come out.
If you recently met us at a table, this is a chance to meet the rest of the crew and get involved. If you’ve been around for years and have been asking for more protests, we need you out here with us. No previous organizing experience or meeting attendance is needed.
We also need hands before the rally! Help us distribute flyers, canvass neighborhoods, design and fold informational zines, and put together signs and flags identifying camera locations. There’s plenty of room for creative people and anyone willing to help get this off the ground.
The interest is here. Let’s strike while the iron is hot and get organized before the weather turns.
RSVP* below, bring a friend, and wear green if you have it. Come for the whole rally or whatever portion you can.
Let’s get the Flock out of our neighborhoods.
*Transparency disclaimer: RSVPing is optional and voluntary. This information is solely stored in the Green Party of PA's database. Information is for crowd-size estimates and future protest contact. All are welcome regardless of RSVP status.
