Green Party of California Endorses AB 2200, and other news
GPCA Endorses AB 2200, California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act
The Green Party of California has endorsed AB 2200, California Guaranteed Health Care for All Act (CalCare) which will begin the process of creating a universal single-payer system of equitable and just health care for every California resident, regardless of employment, income, age or immigration status.
The Green Party of California’s platform has included universal HEALTH CARE AS A HUMAN RIGHT since the inception of the Party and that is why we have proudly supported previous single-payer healthcare bills, including AB 1400, CalCare's predecessor spot bill.
We invite all County Green Parties and other community organizations to endorse AB 2200, and to spread the word by sharing this message with community contacts and affiliated organizations.
The first Assembly Committee hearing on the bill is on April 23, and we urge all supporting organizations to make endorsements before this hearing to demonstrate the high level of public support for it. See the current list of endorsers at the bottom of the CalCare webpage.

GPCA Opposes SB 951 and AB 2560
SB 951 & AB 2560 Waive Protections In California Coastal Cities Against Miami-Style High Rise Construction
California is in danger of a serious rollback of over 50 years of vital California coastal protections, to make way for out-of-control housing construction in coastal cities, via state Senator Scott Wiener's SB 951, and David Alvarez & Scott Wiener's Assembly bill AB 2560.
In November 1972, California voters passed Prop 20 to protect, preserve and restore coastal resources, later the California Legislature passed the Coastal Act of 1976 strengthening coastal protections in Prop 20.
SB 951 and AB 2560 are an attempt by state legislators to preempt the California Coastal Commission's authority in the Coastal Zone. SB 951 waives the authority of the Coastal Commission to hold hearings on housing project approvals in any county that adopts SB 951. It effectively removes San Francisco from the Coastal Zone and allows waivers of the CA Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review of housing construction in Coastal Zones, where such waivers were previously prohibited.
The companion bill AB 2560, expands the SB 951 to the entire CA coast, by applying California's 'Density Bonus' law to the Coastal Zone (where it was previously excluded). This will result in the construction of luxury condo and rental high rises under the pretense of providing 'affordable housing' and 'environmental protection'.
It will actually achieve the opposite, driving out affordable housing by gentrification, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions through new, high CO2 emitting cement high rise construction.
We urges Greens to contact your legislators and ask them to vote NO on both SB 951 and AB 2560 legislation in committee. Find your representatives HERE.
