Surf’s up! The Green Party of the United States is preparing for its first-ever “Green Wave Telethon,” a fundraising effort that is scheduled for broadcast on Facebook this Saturday, August 18th. The telethon will feature live candidate interviews and recorded videos from dozens of Green Party candidates and supporters. The two-hour long event will be hosted by David Cobb, Philena Farley and Erin Fox. You can watch here. 

This year, the Green Party is gearing up for the electoral season with a fresh approach to fundraising, a social media “Telethon” that will encourage voters and supporters to donate to Green Party candidates in electoral races nationwide. 

“We need to do a better job of supporting our Green candidates” said Logan Martinez, Coordinated Campaign Committee member from Ohio. “If we’re going to be serious about winning elections, campaigns need resources in order to win. I’m asking everyone who is serious about supporting the Green Party to donate to candidates up and down the ticket, to volunteer your time and to support them in any way possible. Every one of us can help to make our campaigns a success.”

“We are reaching out to the American voter in a brand new way,” said Ann Link, co-chair of the Green Party National Media Committee. “We’re using technology to enhance our fundraising capacity in a way that is fresh and exciting, but also familiar to most people. It’s similar to public television; we’re not financed by huge corporations, but by donations from average people just like you and me.”

Candidates from across the country, from El Paso, Texas to Ferndale, Michigan will make their pitches to voters, not only for dollars, but for votes and volunteer help. The Green Party plans a “Green Wave” of volunteer activity on the first Saturday of every month during election season and that wave is growing larger and larger.

“Green volunteers are stepping up and supporting Green campaigns like never before,” said Holly Hart, Co-chairperson of the Coordinated Campaign Committee. “It’s exciting to see the drive and energy behind the campaigns of candidates like Kenneth Mejia, Elijah Manley and Rodolfo Cortes Barragan. These campaigns exemplify the values and the spirit behind the Green Party and we are thrilled to support them.”

Are voters ready for a Green Wave of officeholders? Canvassers report that folks are energized by the issues the party represents, such as clean energy, the right to clean and safe water, ending poverty and working toward a peaceful future. “It’s time for the people to have a voice in our government again,” said Hillary Kane, Green Party Treasurer and long-time Coordinated Campaign Committee member. “Our Green candidates are out advocating for issues that matter to everyone. Our candidates speak the minds of the people in their communities. They advocate for an equitable future for everyone. That’s an idea that has a lot of broad-based support. Voters are telling us that it’s time for an alternative and the Green Party is ready to deliver.
