Green candidates achieve vote totals in three statewide races that ensure Green Party of California statewide ballot status for next four years
Under California Elections Code 5100, an already statewide ballot qualified political party can ensure its ballot status for the next four years, if “the sum of the votes cast for all of the candidates for an office voted on throughout the state who disclosed a preference for that party on the ballot was at least 2 percent of the entire vote of the state for that office.”
In three races the total of the Green candidate or candidates in that race exceeded 2% – for Attorney General 5.4%, Secretary of State 4.6% and State Treasurer 3.0%
Marjorie Mikels, Attorney General
472,167 votes, 5.4% (6:44pm, June 12)
Michael Feinstein, Secretary of State
204,988 votes, 2.4% (6:44pm, June 12)
Gary Blenner, Secretary of State
185,429 votes, 2.2% (6:44pm, June 12)
Glen Turner, State Treasurer

Two Green candidates for State Assembly will advance to the November General Election, despite California’s restrictive top two jungle primary system
Green State Assembly District 59 candidate Victor Hernandez received 33.7% of the vote and finished second out of two candidates, meaning he will advance to the November general election.
Green State Assembly District 14 candidates Mark Rendón received 10.0% of the vote and finished second out of three candidates, meaning he will advance to the November general election.
Hernandez and Rendón are only the sixth and seventh California Green to do so in a state or federal legislative race since the top two jungle primary elections went into effect in 2012. Here is background on the other five.
Registered Green Kenneth Mejia was re-elected as Los Angeles City Controller in a non-partisan race
Los Angeles has over 2,200,000 million registered voters, making this the largest election in U.S. history won by a Green Party member, in terms of the total number of registered voters in the district.
The previous high was also in a non-partisan race in Los Angeles County, when in June 2001, Green Nancy Pearlman was elected to the Los Angeles Community College District Board, at the time with a district with then almost 2,125,050 registered voters, spanning an area that included the City of Los Angeles as well as 33 neighboring cities.
Note: Mejia has been a registered Green since January 2024, but is not an active organizer with the party itself. Mejia chose to run in this non-partisan race as a politically independent voice for the City as Controller, neither seeking nor accepting any endorsements from political parties, elected officials or other politicians or political figures. This fit with the independent manner in which he has performed his oversight and investigative duties as Controller. The Green Party of Los Angeles County respected and embraced this approach, proud that an independently-minded elected official such as Mejia would chose to be registered Green in his personal capacity, while being clearly non-partisan in his official capacity as an elected official.
This list below is of all known registered Green Party members running for public office in California in June 2, 2026 elections. Inclusion does not imply endorsement of any individual candidate or campaign.
