How did Muslim Americans vote in election? Poll finds massive shift from 2020
Most Muslim Americans did not vote for either of the two major presidential candidates in the 2024 election, new polling reveals. Instead, a majority of Muslims, 53%, cast their ballots for Green Party candidate Jill Stein, according to a poll from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an advocacy organization.

Meanwhile, 21% voted for President-elect Donald Trump, and 20% voted for Vice President Kamala Harris.
The poll, conducted between Nov. 5 and 6, sampled 1,575 Muslim voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.47 percentage points.
The results mark a stark shift from 2020, when 69% of Muslim Americans voted for President Joe Biden and 17% voted for Trump.
This movement away from the Democratic party was fueled, at least in part, by the U.S. government’s support for Israel’s war in Gaza, Robert McCaw, CAIR’s national government affairs director, said in a news release.
“Our final exit poll of American Muslim voters confirms that opposition to the Biden administration’s support for the war on Gaza played a crucial role, leading to a sharp drop in support for Vice President Harris,” McCaw said.
“President-elect Trump also managed to make in-roads with Muslim voters,” he added.
In Michigan, a swing state with a large Muslim population, Trump earned 22% of the Muslim vote, coming second after Stein, who won 59% of the vote. Harris, in contrast, won just 14%.
Trump also won a majority of the vote in Dearborn — a city with a large Arab population — outpacing both Stein and Harris, according to the Associated Press.
Days after the election, the Middle East North Africa (MENA) Chamber of Commerce in Dearborn addressed a letter to Trump, writing that is is “proud to have contributed to your margins of victory.”
We urge you to call for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and Palestine while crafting a long lasting peace in the region,” the group said.
