• A presentation by the Banking and Monetary Reform Committee of the Green Party

The Capitol Area Greens of Michigan is sponsoring a presentation by the Green Party of the United States Banking and Monetary Reform Committee (BMRC) on ZOOM on Monday, July 18 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Information for joining the ZOOM meeting is below.

BMRC will explain how the monetary system is the underlying cause of nearly all the domestic and global social problems that seem to be beyond our control at this time. Learn how bankers gained control over multinational corporations, the government, and the media, to the detriment of the people and the planet. Their present plans include gaining even more control through the establishment of a Central Bank Digital Currency that threatens to do away with cash. We will discuss strategies on how to challenge this system at local and national levels. We must act now to save people and the planet. The issue of needed monetary reform should be an issue included by candidates in their campaigns for election.

Our monetary system is the root problem of nearly every issue. It increases the cost of everything and fuels the nation’s escalating debt. It adds to the cost of investment in schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. It inflates house prices, making them unaffordable for many hard-working people and the young. Most new money goes into speculation in commodities, like food, which further drives up prices, when there are already growing shortages resulting from climate change, the greed of big companies and waste. Reckless speculation by banks contributes to boom and bust in financial markets already built into the system which leads to enormous instability and regular financial crises. Huge short-term profits and excessively high salaries result in a brain drain into banking and financial services. Our economy is out of balance: too few people making things; over-dependence on the financial sector, all of which is unsustainable.
