Twenty-five years after the anthrax and 9/11 attacks, the former have been memory-holed and the latter have been used to repackage cliched talking points for partisan purposes.

The anthrax letters created a nationwide frenzy of fear and had a note in them: "Death to America / Death to Israel / Allah is Great."

While government and Big Media were trying to frame Iraq for the anthrax attacks, independent scientists concluded they came from Fort Detrick here in Maryland or an allied lab.

Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy were prime targets. The two had been raising concerns about the so-called PATRIOT Act, Congress was shut down for the first time in the modern era.

Two postal workers just near Maryland's 4th district -- Joseph Curseen, Jr. and Thomas Morris, Jr. -- were killed handling the anthrax-laced mail.

The effects of the 2001 anthrax attacks could hardly have been more far-reaching. Congress rubber-stamped the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the so-called PATRIOT Act and the creation of ICE and DHS.

Candidate for Maryland's 4th congressional district Sam Husseini said today: "The anthrax attacks created enormous fear throughout the United States, which was weaponized to justify aggressive wars, attacks on civil liberties and actually expanded spending on biological weapons. Twenty-five years later, we still don't know who was responsible. Congress should have investigated them then. It should investigate them now. What we do know is that whoever was responsible tried to frame Arabs and Muslims -- a false flag attack.

"Former Rep. Rush Holt repeatedly pressed Congress to investigate the anthrax attacks, but Congress never did so. Bruce Ivins, who the FBI claimed was the culprit, allegedly committed suicide, so there was never a trial and as Sen. Leahy has made clear, the FBI version of events is untenable. A serious investigation is long overdue if Congress is going to assert that it isn't a rump institution doing the bidding of the military-industrial complex and other nefarious interests.

"We can do the greatest honor to the victims of these attacks by finding the truth about their deaths no matter where that leads."
