Juneteenth; A Celebration Interrupted

A Celebration Interrupted!
Ending racial injustice will not be achieved by a designated day, month or performative gestures. It will take abolishing the systems of race- and class-based exploitation and oppression.
The ruling elites have clearly demonstrated the deep interconnectedness of all racial, social, gender, economic and environmental injustices. They have left no delusions of safety or crumbs of privileges for the masses.
No one should believe the comforting lie that slavery has been abolished in the U.S..
We call for bringing together a new mass civil rights movement with a mass electoral movement to power the abolition of these systems of oppression and shift the levers of control from the Epstein class billionaires to the people in communities across our country.
Juneteenth, is still a reason to celebrate BUT it is most critical as the spark to inspire ACTION NOW!
Because the struggle for equity continues...
Officially "abolishing" slavery in 1865, the 13th Amendment states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States...”, effectively building in a loophole for legalized slavery as a form of criminal punishment to this day. In California, Black people represent up to 27% of the incarcerated population while making up only 6% of CA residents.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 came a hundred years after Juneteenth was first celebrated as Freedom Day. Yet they also failed Black and Brown communities, as they remain the most electorally disenfranchised, facing perpetual barriers to full participation.
In a massive blow to civil rights, in its recent ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, the Supreme Court, made it much harder for minoritized voters to challenge redistricting maps under the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The ruling allows states more power in drawing districts for partisan gain.
