Missouri Green Party State Convention
SPRINGFIELD, MO – The first state-wide discussion of the Green New Deal (GND) will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 in the Auditorium in Library Center (TLC) 4653 S Campbell Springfield, MO 65810. The event has no charge, is open to the public and the audience will be welcome to ask questions and make comments.
The GND seeks 100% renewable energy by 2030 along with the right to single-payer healthcare, a guaranteed job at a living wage and affordable housing. It would create 20 million jobs and end destructive extraction. The GND would redirect research funds toward wind, solar and geothermal energy.
Moderated by Jo Crain, 2018 Missouri Green Party Candidate for US Senate, the GND forum will include:
- Amy Ramirez, Sunrise Movement
- Jim Evans, Renew Missouri
- Howie Hawkins, Green Party of New York
- Don Fitz, Green Party of St. Louis
There are important questions regarding the GND: What is the difference between GND proposals of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, European Green Parties, the US Green Party and the International Monetary Fund? Are these GND proposals compatible with a shorter work week and a smaller economy with less need for energy?
The GND forum is part of the 2019 Convention of the Green Party of Missouri, which will include members from five regions of the state.
Saturday afternoon from 2 pm - 3:30 and from 3:45 - 5:15 pm there will be concurrent workshops, also at the Library Center. They are also at no cost with the public invited to participate in discussions of the following:
- Ranked Choice Voting,
- MO Ag after the Demise of Monsanto,
- Organizing 101, Chapter Building,
- “So, You Want to be a Candidate”
The full agenda of the two day convention can be found on the Missouri Green Party website or by contacting Jo Crain at 816-699-7928.
