The West Virginia Mountain Party vehemently condemns the planned visit by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to the U.S. Treasury Department facility in Parkersburg, West Virginia. This visit is not an effort to serve the public good but a dangerous extension of the Trump-Musk agenda, which seeks to dismantle public institutions, slash essential services, and further consolidate power in the hands of the wealthy elite.

DOGE, created by Donald Trump and led by Elon Musk, represents a direct assault on the working class and the public sector. Under the guise of "efficiency" and "cost-cutting," this initiative aims to gut critical government programs, eliminate essential jobs, and undermine the vital services that millions of Americans rely on. Musk, a billionaire who has built his fortune on the exploitation of workers, is now being handed the reins to dictate public policy, further eroding democratic accountability and prioritizing corporate interests over the needs of the people.

The Trump-Musk agenda is clear: to shrink the government to a size where it can be "drowned in the bathtub," as right-wing ideologues have long advocated. This is not about efficiency; it is about privatization, deregulation, and the transfer of public wealth into private hands. The potential cuts to the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other critical agencies threaten to devastate communities, particularly in states like West Virginia, where public services are already underfunded and overburdened.

Chase Linko-Looper, the Mountain Party's 2024 candidate for governor, commented: "DOGE is a grift intended to allow the rich to gamble with our economy while the rest of us are left to suffer the fallout. We must resist these attempts to sell our public services off to the highest bidder."

The U.S. Treasury Department facility in Parkersburg should not be a staging ground for this anti-worker, anti-public sector agenda. Instead of allowing billionaires like Musk to dictate the future of our government, we must demand policies that strengthen public institutions, expand access to education, healthcare, and housing, and ensure that every worker has a living wage and the right to organize.

The West Virginia Mountain Party stands in solidarity with all working people and calls on our communities to resist the destructive policies of DOGE and the billionaire class it serves. We must fight for a government that serves the many, not the few, and for a socialist future where the needs of the people come before the profits of the wealthy.
