Dear Esteemed ________________:
My name is __________________, a constituent of District _______.
I strongly encourage you to adopt a resolution in support of the Palestinian people and condemning Israeli actions in Gaza. As you know, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for "the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare: and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts." It is important to show that this city/county respects and complies with the rule of international law and acknowledges the genocide which is occurring in Gaza. I think it is imperative that we try to walk with moral clarity and say that we in the State of Alabama, home of the Rocket City, do not want the rockets we design, develop, and distribute to be used to fire warheads on civilians and children, either intentionally or through wanton disregard.
Please adopt a resolution, for example:
- WHEREAS, the city/county of ______________ values peace, justice, and human rights; and
- WHEREAS, the ongoing collective punishment, campaign of violence, and forced displacement of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has resulted in the mass murder of civilians via various weapons of war, including a historic number of victims amongst humanitarian aid workers, journalists, healthcare workers, and civilian men, women, and children; and
- WHEREAS, the withholding, blocking, and deliberate destruction of humanitarian aid has resulted in conditions of famine for all civilians in Gaza, affecting a population composed primarily of women and children; and
- WHEREAS, the state of Israel’s actions have been a cause of serious concern, including allegations of genocide with proceedings currently underway at the International Court of Justice (ICJ); and
- WHEREAS, it is essential to express solidarity with those affected by this campaign of violence and advocate for a peaceful and just resolution that respects the rights of the Palestinian people;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by this government body that
- The city/county of ______________ stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza,who are currently facing a campaign of genocide - as defined by Article II of the United Nations (UN) Genocide Convention - by the state of Israel.
- The city/county of ______________ condemns antisemitism, anti-Jewish sentiments, Islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian sentiments.
- The city/county of ______________ condemns any actions that exacerbate violence, suffering, and loss of life in the region.
- The city/county of ______________ calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urges all parties involved to engage in dialogue and seek a peaceful resolution while critical aid is allowed to flow into Gaza uninhibited.
- The city/county of ______________ recognizes the right of all people, regardless of their nationality or ethnicity, to live in peace, security, and dignity; supporting a free Palestinian state.
- The city/county of ______________ encourages its residents to engage in informed discussions about the approximately 76 year history of increasing tactics towards the goal of ethnic cleansing in what the UN refers to as the “Occupied Palestinian Territories,” and advocate for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Signed,

Are monks and hippies and poets relevant? No, we are deliberately irrelevant. We live with an ingrained irrelevance which is proper to every human being. The marginal accepts the basic irrelevance of the human condition, an irrelevance which is manifested above all by the fact of death. The marginal person, the monk, the displaced person, the prisoner, all these people live in the presence of death, and the office of the monk or the marginal person, the meditative person or the poet is to go beyond death even in this life, to go beyond the dichotomy of life and death and to be, therefore, a witness to life.
