News from Rochester
The Green Party of Monroe County is about to start week 2 of signature gathering to get Dr. Jill Stein on the ballot in New York State. No surprise, but the weather doesn't look that great for this week, but there ARE opportunities.
Wednesday, April 24th is the first Food Truck Rodeo at the Public Market, 5-9pm. As of right now, there's not supposed to be any precipitation, but it will be chilly. If you like your weather to be "brisk", join some other hardy petitioners to gather some signatures.
Saturday, April 27th, we'll be at the Public Market again. If it's raining, we'll go under the pavilion. If you let us know when you can make it, we will make sure there's an organizer there. There will be someone there from 8-11am for sure, but if you want to do later, let Dave know. (see below)
Sunday, April 28th, we will be meeting in the parking lot at the corner of Humbolt St & Brookfield Rd in Rochester at Noon. From there we will pair up and take a section of that part of the city to go door-to-door. Or you can bring a friend and do it together. Training will be provided or you can watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxhJKI81DHo
Of course you can also ask friends and family to sign your petition. You can download it as a .pdf to print yourself at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rS_PrpK7t8ApiUf-Xuarczph96xldH4Y/view?usp=drive_link
If you have other ideas or events, or just have a question, you can reach out to Dave Sutliff-Atias at 585-315-7687 or[email protected].
Remember, getting Jill on the ballot means:
- You have the opportunity to vote against genocide and for fighting climate change, nuclear disarmament & single payer health care.
- You help Greens run for local office next year by making it easier for those folks to get on the ballot.
- You get to actually vote for your values.
Other local actions you can take:
You've probably seen in the news (not Gannett though) that the City of Rochester is trying to create astronomical increases in property assessments. This will effect both property owners and renters alike. There is a petition demanding City Hall put a 2 year hold on these increases until a better way can be developed.
This is not a "Housing is a Human Right" kind of effort, but the online petition is an easy way of trying to stop another injustice against the working class as we organize to stabilize rents and make sure everyone has a decent, accessible, safe, and affordable place to live.

And don't forget that the Newspaper Guild of Rochester is still on strike. You can follow them on Twitter and donate to their strike fund at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-unionized-gannet-workers-fighting-back.
