President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn enters into possible City Council Special Election Race
Brooklyn, NY – Advocate Anthony Beckford, has officially decided to explore running for the 45th City Council District, which may be vacated and up for Special Election if Councilman Jumaane Williams wins the upcoming Public Advocate Race on February 26th. Anthony has a proven track record in advocacy, legislation and safeguarding of resources for the community.

Anthony is a single father, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and son of Jamaican immigrants. He has worked alongside Councilman Jumaane Williams and many other Elected Officials and Community Organizations in regards to Gun Violence, Immigrant Rights, Women's Health and Education. Beckford is the Leader of the Brooklyn Sector of Copwatch Patrol Unit and President and Co-Founder of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn.
Anthony has fought for and continues to fight for issues that matter most to us. He helped the community shut down a racist Nail Salon in East Flatbush, where three Black Women were viciously beaten. Anthony was one of the first community members to come to the aid of Ann Marie Washington, an Afro Caribbean Woman from Trinidad, who was the victim of a viscous hate crime at the Church Avenue Train Station. He also helped to raise over $10,000 to help pay for her medical expenses. Recently, Anthony has been advocating against the brutal attack on Yasmine James, who was the young woman that was attacked in the viral video at a McDonald's in Florida.
Beckford, has been on the frontlines in various movements such as Families Belong Together, Black Lives Matter, New York Health Act and the Housing Justice Campaign along with Flatbush Tenant Coalition and other housing organizations.
