Urgent Need for Principled Candidates for 2018!
Boston, MA – Our political system is completely corrupted by big money and insider politics. To change it we need principled candidates, who cannot be bought, with a bold vision and who will offer an alternative to the establishment by advocating for human dignity, environmental justice, diversity, and democracy. If you have ever thought about running for office, this is the year to step forward.
The Green-Rainbow Party has issued a call for members willing to run in 2018 for one of four statewide offices: Attorney General, Secretary of the Commonwealth, State Treasurer, or State Auditor. If you are interested to any extent, please contact us immediately by emailing Joshua Gerloff at [email protected]. We will give you more information and help you decide whether to run. We want to get a conversation started with you before February 15, so don't delay.
If you run, you will become part of our statewide slate of candidates. We will put your name on our nominating petitions and collect the signatures required to put your name on the 2018 ballot.
You will give voters a chance to vote for a candidate of integrity. And you will have an opportunity to raise important issues and to put new solutions before the voters.
If you cannot run, but know someone you think we should talk to about their running, you can help us by sending their name and contact information to the above email address. We welcome all suggestions.
What are the basic requirements for running for these offices? We are looking for people who are registered Green-Rainbow and who believe in the importance of the independent politics represented by the Green-Rainbow Party. You do not have to be an expert on the policy issues, but you have to be willing to study the issues associated with your race and to give a few reasons why your election would bring new ideas into state government. You must respond to any press inquiries and must attend any candidate forums organized for your race. We also seek candidates who will bring diversity to our slate. The GRP will help you assemble a small group of volunteers to work for you – and you will be part of our statewide slate. You do not have to spend excessive amounts of time campaigning.
A basic goal of our 2018 races is to receive at least 3% of the statewide vote. If we reach that goal, then the GRP will be recognized as a major political party in Massachusetts and we will have ballot access for 2020. Our experience indicates that reaching the 3% threshold is quite possible by winning support from Green voters and independent voters who wish to cast a vote against the establishment parties. If an extraordinary turn of events puts you in position to actually win the race, that would be very exciting and could be a game-changing moment in Massachusetts politics.
Again, please step up and join our candidate team. Our future depends on people like you taking this step. Please contact Joshua Gerloff by email at [email protected].
Thanks so much for helping us fill our 2018 slate!
