Protecting working families this Labor Day
“Without Labor, nothing prospers.” Sophocles
It’s Labor Day every day! Let’s take a moment to celebrate how hard you’ve worked and remember those that have made countless sacrifices to make America’s workforce what it is today, including my grandmother. Growing up, my grandmother who served as president of AFSCME Council 31 and became the first Black Women elected to the executive board of the Chicago Federation Of Labor. She introduced me to my passion to organize and advocate for prosperity for all people. Labor unions have shaped history, created opportunity and worked hard to protect working families against unfair employer policies and practices.
Labor Day, is dedicated to the the movement and people that gave us the weekend, vacation days and overtime, the American labor movement. It honors the contributions workers have made to collectively bargain and create a level playing field in the workplace that improves the quality of life of so many.
I stand with labor unions, and I need your help to get me to Annapolis. As a Delegate, I will support legislation that works in the interest of working men, women and families and ensures that they have a living wage.
Supporting legislation for working people creates the a pathway to a better Baltimore and a better Maryland. Will you join me?
Your friend and advocate for working families,
Joshua Harris
