Two upcoming fundraisers to support the Green Party of Rhode Island
As we enter the final stretch before our 25th Anniversary Regional Summit in Providence on December 2, we have two opportunities for you to help us build this event.
First, on November 11 at 4:00 pm, come shop with Stages of Freedom Bookstore and enjoy refreshments while networking with local supporters. 2017 is the anniversary of multiple important progressive-left events in recent history. Learn about how these events shaped the Black experience and tradition in America.
From Richard Wright to Claudia Jones and W.E.B. Du Bois, so many important work of literature have been written over the past 100 years that are worth studying. Located at 10 Westminster Street, next to the Textron building, it is a great opportunity to begin the holiday shopping season while supporting both GPRI and Stages of Freedom, who uses the money they make in the book sales to finance free swimming lessons for urban youth of color in Rhode Island. Black youth in Rhode Island drown at five times the rate of white youth. Children who know how to swim grow up and teach their neighbors and cousins how to swim, and eventually their own children and grandchildren. In this way, we can reverse the terrible effects that the long history of institutional racism and the exclusion of African Americans from our nation's public pools brought about. Next, on November 18 at 4:00 pm, we will be holding a Family Movie Fun Fundraiser at The Parlour. Located 1119 Main Street in Providence near the Pawtucket city line, it is an opportunity to enjoy food and friends with a family-friendly film for all! Click here for more info.
The Green Party of Rhode Island is one of the oldest in America. We hope to celebrate this history this December while building a base that will produce Green candidates for office while also fostering a culture based around our Ten Key Values in civic institutions and organizations. Recent events both locally and internationally have shown that we are entering a new phase of climate change due to human-generated greenhouse gas emissions, something that requires a mobilization in both the ballot box and our wider popular culture. But we need your help to do this. Even if you can't make it to either of these events, please consider Donating Today!
