Contribute to urgent action to save people's homes
Arlington, MA – Did you know that most foreclosures were illegal? And many people who lost homes in the Great Recession are still reeling financially.
The Massachusetts Alliance Against Predatory Lending (a statewide organization co-founded by the Green-Rainbow Party, City Life/Vida Urbana, and ACORN) is now prepared to file an emergency court challenge and needs $5,000 immediately.
As we all know, even small contributions from many people can add up quickly. So spread this request broadly! Details are at MAAPL.info but here is the short story:
Massachusetts Chapter 141 of the Acts of 2015 (known as S2015) stripped homeowners' rights to reverse an illegal foreclosure of their home. Instead of having 20 years to seek redress, the timeframe was reduced to just one year (ending this month), or, in some cases, three years.
MAAPL's legal team prepared an Emergency Court challenge and is ready to go to trial. There is a strong possibility this terrible law can be stopped. For them to proceed requires an immediate $5,000 in funds.
Go to MAAPL.info to contribute online, or send a check (made out to MAAPL) to: MAAPL, c/o GFCAC, 367 Washington St, Dorchester, MA 02124
In addition to this critical effort, MAAPL is currently phonebanking thousands of former homeowners to inform them (1) their foreclosure was likely illegal, (2) they can protect their right to reverse an illegal mortgage by acting now, and (3) MAAPL provides free assistance. MAAPL is also conducting workshops this month across the state.
For the health of families, neighborhoods, and the economy, this is one of the most productive actions that can be taken. Please support it today!
And spread the word to all your networks. Thank you.
