Green Party's Stein to host town hall in Oxford
OXFORD, MS – Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein will make a stop in Oxford next week to lead a student town hall event.
The event will take place Oct. 3 at The Lyric. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the town hall begins at 7 p.m.
Information tables and networking opportunities will be available for students prior to the start of the town hall.
The event is free, but seats will be first come, first serve.
Following opening remarks by Stein, students will ask pre-selected questions to Stein live before the assembled crowd with the aid of a professional moderator.
Ben Davis, UM student who is helping coordinate Stein's visit, said he believes her platform will resonate with students in particular.
"I think there is going to be a lot more excitement, especially given that the youth vote is dissatisfied with the two major-party candidates," Davis said. "I think that we need to have an environment on campus and across the nation that allows us to hear the positions of third-party candidates."
Stein's visit is sponsored by the Mississippi chapter of the Popular Resistance Movement, a sanctioned student activity group at the University of Mississippi, and the Green Party of Mississippi.
Davis said he encourages students to attend and participate in engaging conversations as well as ask questions about what they believe to be important issues.
Although the town hall is geared toward students, anyone can attend.
