Having witnessed the power of lobbyists and campaign contributions to block health, environmental and worker protections, Jill helped pass a Clean Election Law by voter referendum in Massachusetts. Passed by a 2-1 margin, the law was later repealed by the overwhelmingly Democratic Massachusetts Legislature on an unrecorded voice vote. This sabotage of campaign finance reform by the Democratic Party was a pivotal event in Jill’s political development, strengthening her alignment with the Green Party.
Rudolph “Butch” Ware, PhD, works with communities across the U.S. and the world to challenge imperialism, ethnic cleansing, and endless war, especially in response to the Gaza genocide and the 2020 murder of George Floyd. He teaches History, Black Studies, and Islamic Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Stein and Ware are committed to numerous actions as president and vice president that will produce an economy that works for working people, lifelong free public education, housing as a human right, and immediate National Improved Medicare for All that leads to a democratically controlled healthcare service guaranteeing health care as a human right for everyone in the U.S. Their positions on democracy, prisons and policing, social justice, disability rights, immigration and other issues are detailed at www.jillstein2024.com/platform.
Of their successful effort to appear on enough states’ ballots to win in the Electoral College, Stein said, “Ours is the only campaign with a path to the White House that will end the genocide in Gaza and pursue an immediate arms embargo and permanent ceasefire with justice for Palestine.” The Green Party’s Stein-Ware ticket is “the only campaign confronting the climate emergency with the urgency it demands. And the only campaign with a radically transformative economic vision to build a society free of injustice, inequity, hunger, and want – none of which is reflected in the Democrats’ priorities.”
