Jason Call: It’s time to cut the Pentagon budget
While Congress is still dithering around, waiting for Republicans to get their act together long enough to fund the budget for the current year, the Biden White House is already finalizing their proposal for next year’s budget.
And you can bet there will be another fat raise for the Pentagon baked right in.
After withdrawing from Afghanistan in August 2021, and ending our nation’s longest war, many of us hoped we would FINALLY see a retraction in unbridled defense spending. But every year the Pentagon budget climbs, and now we’re on a fast track to a TRILLION dollar military spending package.
All this spending on weapons and war isn’t making us safer. It’s making the world less stable, creating new security threats and conflicts to American interests at home and abroad – and it’s rapidly accelerating the climate crisis.
As a lifelong anti-war activist, I’m proud to join forces with the team at Win Without War to demand that we finally invest in human needs and climate action by redirecting the bloated defense budget into housing, healthcare, and getting off of fossil fuels.
Will you add your name to tell Biden to cut the Pentagon budget now?
It is often said that budgets are moral documents, a reflection of our priorities as a nation. Even President Biden has said that.
The current budget reflects a government determined to wage war and accelerate global warming to the brink of human extinction. It’s time for a new set of values.
Thank you for adding your name and for staying in the fight for a future built on peace and justice.
