Real Talk with Fernando Uribe is excited to announce a Town Hall featuring 10 candidates from the Green 13 of New Jersey running for Congress. The event will take place at The College of New Jersey’s R. Barbara Gitenstein Library Auditorium and will be livestreamed. Host Fernando Uribe, a prominent voice in New Jersey’s political, social, and cultural scene, will guide the discussion as these candidates present their vision for a better New Jersey and the Nation.
Candidates include:
- Robin Brownfield (NJ CD-1): A seasoned labor organizer and adjunct professor, Robin Brownfield has fought for workers’ rights through her involvement with the United Farm Workers and the American Federation of Teachers. She’s currently active in South Jersey for Gaza, advocating for a permanent ceasefire and justice for Palestinians.
- Thomas Cannavo (NJ CD-2): A retired prosecutor and advocate for “people over profits,” Thomas Cannavo is running on a platform centered around universal healthcare, affordable housing, and ending the corporate influence in government. He seeks to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources.
- Steve Welzer (NJ CD-3): A founding member of the Green Party of New Jersey, Steve Welzer has been an advocate for eco-socialism for over 30 years. He is the editor of Green Horizon Magazine and has run for governor in 2013.
- Barry Bendar (NJ CD-4): A longtime I.T. professional and community advocate, Barry Bendar has been involved in cancer awareness, environmental sustainability, and election reform. He is a founding member of Voter Choice NJ, promoting Ranked Choice Voting.
- Beau Forte (NJ CD-5): A West Milford resident and father, Beau Forte is dedicated to reforming the healthcare system, informed by his experience as a caregiver for his father. He is also advocating for greater accountability and representation in government.
- Andrew Black (NJ CD-7): A blue-collar worker with decades of experience, Andrew Black is running to guarantee housing and food security, promote tax reform, and end corporate ownership of homes. He also advocates for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
- Christian “CJ” Robbins (NJ CD-8): A recent Rowan University graduate, CJ Robbins is focused on issues like universal healthcare, affordable housing, and a Green New Deal. He aims to provide mass transportation solutions and end the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
- Ben Taylor (NJ CD-9): A mycologist and political activist, Ben Taylor is fighting against corporate control and advocating for worker’s rights, social justice, and environmental preservation. He is committed to eco-socialism and rejecting corporate donations.
- Jon Serrano (NJ CD-10): Born in Paterson, Jon Serrano focuses on equitable healthcare access, economic opportunity, and environmental justice. He is dedicated to representing marginalized voices and fighting systemic injustices.
- Lily Benavides (NJ CD-11): An advocate for immigrant rights and community service, Lily Benavides has led numerous social initiatives in New Jersey and beyond. She focuses on labor rights, cultural promotion, and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
The event promises to be an engaging opportunity for voters to hear directly from the candidates about their positions on key issues facing New Jersey and the country.
